Harvest Festival

The roots of this go back decades, to a competition between allotment holders with a judging of produce being held outside the Kings Head pub, followed by an auction. The proceeds were put towards The Senior Citizens Christmas Party which is held in April every year and is free to all who live in the village and are of pensionable age. It is a proper Christmas Party: there is a tree and decorations, Christmas crackers and of course roast turkey and trimmings. There is entertainment and you should see the dancing.

The auction itself is way more fun than the title might suggest. The same competitive spirit has in the past led to some amazing prices being paid for a jar of pickled onions. At the same time children have bid 50p for a plate of buns and for some reason no-one has counter-bid.
